Hi Honeys,
Hello again, I hope you're having the best week and looking forward to a wonderful weekend.π Today's post is part two of our look at the vehicles included in this years open day organised by the Glasgow Vintage Vehicle Trust.
All of these photos belong to my dear Hubby, it was really sweet of him to share them (thank you sweetheart x) Hubby is a member of the GVVT and looks forward to these open days, even though it's quite a trip for him to get to the garage where they're held.
Open day attendees are able to be picked up from the City centre and can travel by a specially laid on bus service, sometimes by vintage buses, to the open day or over to the Riverside Museum. Hubby didn't go there this trip, I wish he had because it's beautiful over there and I would have liked to have shared it with you.
If you ever have the chance to visit the Riverside Museum, I would highly recommend it honeys. The Museum itself is a place to become lost in, there is so much to see there. Highlights for me include the recreation of a cobbled Glasgow street, complete with shop fronts and even a cinema you can go into and sit and watch vintage film footage. I think it was newsreels last time I was there, although it's been a wee while.
There is also the beyond beautiful tall ship, The Glenlee, moored alongside the museum. Visitors are able to explore the Glenlee and find out what a life at sea might have been like. I last visited with two dear friends (missing you Francine and John xx) and I'm sure I was a wet blanket fun wise because I have no "sea legs" whatsoever.ππ Nope, this wee woman much prefers her feet to remain on terra firma, thank you!π
If you'd like to read a little more on both these wonderful places, I'll include links for you at the end of this post honeys x
Let's jump right in to today's post then, but before we do, why don't you go grab a cuppa and a cookie (or two) and Ill meet you back here after the page break for Hubby's lovely pics x
Welcome back honeys x Do you have your cuppa? Cool, me too.☕πͺ Let's jump in then.ππ
Today's post has images of two "recovery" vehicles as well as several Scottish Fire Service "appliances" or fire engines/trucks.
Recovery Vehicles:
These two recovery vehicles have been used to move or tow fun fair rides and fairground attractions. I think they're both beautiful.π
AEC Matador
This vehicle was originally conceived as a military vehicle, a truck and at times an artillery tractor. It has a fascinating history.
Volvo Freightliner:
Painted in red, white and blue and with the grill painted as a Confederate flag, this beautiful vehicle is clearly paying homage to our American cousins...
On the back of the cab of this freightliner there is a horse-drawn covered wagon with flames at the wheels, and "American Dream's" emblazoned above it. I love it! (even though it has an apostrophe where it shouldn't, the plural of dream is dreams not dream's ... I know, it's a wonder I've ever had any friends at all really.π)
As I said
in part one of these posts my vehicle knowledge is
extremely limited. I don't even drive but don't these big trucks usually have a flatbed lorry hitched up to them? My Dad used to drive these many moons ago and they were used for long distance deliveries... ah! Freight! That'll be why it's called a "freightliner" OK, moving on... nothing to see here... only a very stupid wee Rosie...π
Scottish Fire Service Appliances
I know that many call these beautiful vehicles fire trucks or fire engines but here they are referred to as appliances. At the GVVT open day there were two on display, both in private ownership to members of the Scottish Fire Appliance Owners Club.
I have no words for how cool it must be to belong to a club like that. π Leave me alone! Stop judging me. It's the uniform and too many years watching "London's Burning" that what's done it.π It's a little known fact that I have a tiny die cast Dennis Appliance upstairs on a shelf with other little treasures.π
Dennis Rapier (1994)
This appliance was originally bought by Nottingham Fire Brigade but has now (well, obviously Rosie, I mean there it isπ) made it's way North of the border to Scotland.
I am reliably informed by Hubby that this very same appliance once appeared on Top Gear with several firemen. Whoever owns it now is clearly taking very good care of it and I love how they have also kept so much of the equipment, including a resuscitation training dummy.
Ford A Series Appliance
Hubby has just told me the model number for this appliance. Seriously. Remember when I said that he's a wee bit of a vehicle buff. Now imagine what he's like with buses. Now, buses are his real passion. Like I said, he's a bus enthusiast extraordinaire and I love him anyway.ππ
Hubby is now looking over my shoulder and telling me that this appliance was a support unit vehicle from 1980 to 1992 and on the door is the insignia of Dumfries and Galloway Fire Brigade. I know I sound as if I'm making fun of him but I'm really not. I'm incredibly proud of him honeys. He really is very smart, very awesome and the sweetest guy on the planet.π
Scania 82M, Dennis F8 & Magirus Deutz
These gorgeous appliances are being cared for by the GVVT and are permanently based at the garage. You can find full details about them, and about all of the other vehicles at the GVVT website on their
stock list page here. This link will take you to the fire engines (yep the page has them listed as fire engines..tsk!) but if you scroll up or further down the page you'll find the Trusts other vehicles listed.
What an image to end on honeys. I hope that you've enjoyed these photos, and again, many thanks to Hubby for sharing them with us x. If you have, there's still another post to come, with some of the buses being displayed at the open day. I'll add a few links below for you, in case you'd like to find out more.
