Blogtober Day 11: Is It Time To Ban The Sale Of Fireworks? Tips To Keep Your Furbabies Safe...

 Hi Honeys,

It's started already.  Two nights ago there was a football match. It was televised.  It was Scotland Vs Isreal (Scotland won 3-2 as Hubby just told me) and of course, we had the fireworks going off when the match finished, and continuing for (too) long afterwards.😞

I know, I know.  I'm being a meanie, fun-hating Grinch (except it's about fireworks and not Christmas, but you know what I mean.😊) but it really is unbearable at times.  The sale of fireworks is (supposed to be)  already restricted to certain times during the year, and if this is so, where do they get them to be setting them off all year long?  Like after football matches, for instance ?

Is It Time To Ban The Sale Of Fireworks? Tips To Keep Your Furbabies Safe

I'm happy for people to have fun, I really am honeys, even though I know I must sound very mean spirited in this, but any furbaby Mum will tell you how devastating it can be for furbabies to experience what sounds like world war three going on outside.😢

Yes, have fun, celebrate but knock it off at a decent time and don't go shocking people out of their sleep at 3am with what sounds like bombs going off outside.

It's a very old prank honeys, to throw "bangers" (fireworks that are already loud enough to make anyone's ears bleed) into the huge metal rubbish bins outside flats (apartments.)  The huge bins amplify the noise of the "bangers" and believe me, it's not a great way to be woken up, especially when you're a furbaby who doesn't understand what's happening. 💔

Keeping furbabies safe during fireworks events...

How to keep your furbabies safe during fireworks displays - Jade loves her little sofa and blanket for nap time.

There are lots of ways to keep our furbabies safe during fireworks displays honeys.  Most of all they need reassurance and love to help keep them from being distressed by the noise.  Here are a few things we've found helpful over the years with Jade:

  • Keep furbabies inside during the times when fireworks are being set off.
  • Walk your babies during daylight hours and then keep them inside till its all over. Note: please don't get angry if babies wee inside. They'll be terrified and many usually very clean babies get so frightened they really can't help it.
  • play soft music or have the TV on so that there is a background noise to help distract them and drown out the fireworks. Note: not too loud honeys! Remember their wee ears can be more sensitive than ours
  • There are lots of videos on youtube designed to calm furbabies.  You can find a list of these calming videos here honeys.
  • Make sure your furbabies aren't alone if you can. They really do need reassurance.  Our furbaby Jade hugs up against me on the sofa, under her blanket.
  • Jade has a couple of Thunder shirts that have helped her. It's not a miracle cure, it took time to work with Jade but I definitely know it makes a real difference.  You can find them online by searching for "anxiety jackets." There are other brands than the original Thundershirts available and they're also available for cats as well as dogs.
  • Have you tried one of the "doughnut" shaped fluffy beds for your baby?  Jade has two of them, one upstairs in the bedroom and the other in the living room. She loves them and they really do keep their promise in the ads, they do calm her 💖 She also has her little sofa, it's important they have a place that feels safe to them honeys.
  • Please keep your windows and curtains closed to try to create a little safe place, hopefully your curtains and windows (double glazing) will help cut down the sounds as much as possible.
The RSPCA are running a #BangOutOfOrder campaign to make fireworks less frightening for our furbabies.  They have a page here, with lots of information on ways to keep babies safe.

What do you do to help your babies feel calm honeys?  Please share your tips in the comments below.  It won't be long till November 5th and it always starts before then unfortunately.

Till tomorrow dear ones, stay warm and safe, hugs always xx

Huggles always, Rosie xx
