Blogtober Day 28: Ghostly Smiles For Halloween

Disclaimer: I haven't been paid to promote any products, it's Halloween week and I thought I'd share my favourite ghostly smiles x

Hi Honeys,
How are you today?  All well I hope?  We've been hit by a cold snap ⛄  It was so cold this morning, it was -1c at around 7am, that I half expected to see penguins running around in our kitchen! That'll teach me to wear slippers before stepping onto the chilly tiles of our kitchen floor ๐Ÿ˜Š

I recently shared some favourite TV box sets, both British and American, and today, since it's Halloween week, I thought I'd share a few ghostly smiles ๐Ÿ‘ป

Ghostly Smiles For Halloween...

"Smiles Rosie?" I hear you say, "isn't Halloween a time for scares and frights and things that go bump in the night?" Absolutely!  It's also a time for fun ๐Ÿ˜Š I adore Halloween honeys, it's probably my favourite holiday ๐Ÿ˜Š

Last night Hubby & I made up lots of treat bags for little trick or treaters who'll visit this Thursday, tonight we're going to finish our Halloween decorating and tomorrow I'm hoping to do some baking ๐Ÿ˜Š

I'm feeling drained after my shifts at work over the weekend and feel so blessed not to have a shift at work till Friday so I think our furbaby Jade and I will share a blanket on the sofa and watch some ghostly smiles for Halloween week ๐Ÿ˜Š

The Ghosts of Motley Hall & Nobody's House

Ghostly Smiles For Halloween: The Ghosts of Motley Hall and Nobody's House are haunted house comedy/dramas written for a children's audience.

The Ghosts of Motley Hall

Any child of the 70s will remember Motley Hall with a smile ๐Ÿ˜Š  I adored this series honeys.  I couldn't wait to see the next episode and find out what Bodkin, Sir George, Fanny The White Lady and Matt were doing.  As an adult I still love it every bit as much ๐Ÿ’–

Motley Hall, built in 1577, is the ancestral home of the Uproars.  Generations of the Uproars, an aristocratic family, have lived in Motley until the death of the last Uproar causes it to be placed up for sale through an estate agent, Mr Gudgin.  Gudgin cares for Motley, he knows it's history but he's a little spooked by the place.  There are five ghosts who "live" in Motley.

The white lady, in her long, white, floaty gown has no memory of her life, or death, only that she's always been at Motley.  It's believed that she's been at Motley the longest, even longer than Bodkin.

Bodkin was a fool, or a court jester, and lived during the reign of Elizabeth I or "Gloriana" as Bodkin refers to her.  He died of pneumonia, caused by his employer repeatedly ordering that he be thrown into the duck pond, even in winter when they had to break the ice first.

Sir Francis Uproar, or Fanny as his fellow ghosts call him, lived in the 18th century.  He was a drinker and gambler who was fond of fighting duels, but he has a kind heart.  He died while fighting a duel drunk.

General Sir George Uproar KCMG was a general in the British Army during the 19th century.  Sir George had a less than distinguished career and was in fact responsible for many of his men's deaths.  He once procured the wrong size bullets before they went into battle and even ordered his men to swim across a river full of crocodiles.  Sir George died at Motley after falling down the stairs.

Matt, the stable boy also lived during the Victorian age and he never saw the inside of Motley Hall until after his death when he became curious to see the inside after overhearing two crooked men planning on having the House declared dangerous in order to have it condemned so they could buy it cheaply, knock it down and build on the land.  Matt lived and slept in the stables, he caught a cold during a bitter winter and, like Bodkin, died of pneumonia.

The series follows Gudgin trying to sell Motley and the ghosts attempts to stop him selling the house to those they considered unsuitable. The characters do sound very tragic don't they? They're not though, honeys.  It is a lovely, sweet series and if you have the chance to watch any episodes I would absolutely recommend them.

Nobody's House

Nobody's House follows the adventures of a family, mother, father and their teenage son and daughter, who buy a house built on the site of a Victorian workhouse. The house is haunted by the ghost of a young boy around the children's ages who died there.

The children are (initially at least) the only ones who see the ghost, who tells them he was never given a name, so they name him Nobody.  The series ran for seven episodes and it's a shame they didn't make a second series.  It was intended to be a children's comedy/drama but it's sweet, funny and well worth a watch.  I'm so glad they released it on dvd.

Marley's Ghosts & Ghosts

Ghostly Smiles For Halloween: Marley's Ghosts and Ghosts are comedy/dramas and both are a fun way to pass a few hours.

Marley's Ghosts

Marley's ghosts is the sweetest, gentle comedy series that just happens to have ghosts in it ๐Ÿ˜Š Marley, the central character is a magistrate.  A pillar of the community, she's married to Adam whose business went bankrupt and now spends his time drinking and embarrassing her.

Marley is having an affair with a co-worker at the court, Michael.  One afternoon Adam shows up drunk at the court and disrupts the case being heard by Marley.  Spoilers! I don't want to spoil it for you honeys but Marley's three ghosts are her husband, her boyfriend Michael and the local vicar ๐Ÿ˜Š

If you haven't seen it and get the chance to, at least watch the first series, made up of three half hour episodes.  I love Marley's Ghosts, the second series (which had six episodes) wasn't all the same quality as the first but they still make me smile ๐Ÿ˜Š

Ghosts

Ghosts is the most recent of the box sets in this post.  Hubby and I followed each episode and then pre-ordered the dvd we liked it so much ๐Ÿ˜Š  Ghosts was shown on the BBC and began in April of this year.  It was made by the team behind the children's historical series Horrible Histories.

A young couple, Allison and Mike, are desperately looking for a home and looking at terrible flats because they haven't enough money.  They inherit a grand house called Button Hall from an elderly relative of Alison's and decide to quit their jobs, renovate the house and open a hotel.

The house however, much like Motley Hall, has ghosts in residence who are horrified at these plans and decided to put a stop to it.  They try their hand at haunting but since neither Mike nor Alison can see or hear them it doesn't work.

One of the ghosts, a disgraced politician who died there, has developed the ability to move objects and sees Alison one afternoon leaning out of an upstairs window trying to see a pigeon who's taken up residence in the house and he decides to push her out of the window! The other ghosts are horrified by his actions.

Alison however survives, although she's placed into a two week long induced coma to recover.  When she wakes up, she and Mike return to the house and Alison discovers, thanks to her near death experience, that she can see and hear the ghosts.

The series follows the couple trying to work on the house and live in harmony with the ghosts, who Mike knows about but can't see or hear.  They're making a second series and I can't wait to see it honeys.  I can't wait to visit Button Hall again ๐Ÿ’–

Over to you honeys, what will you be watching this Halloween? Till next time dear ones, stay warm, smile lots and hug even more ๐Ÿ’–  Hugs always x

Hugs always, Rosie xx
