10 Ways To Be Happy On A Rainy Day...

Hi Honeys
It's a soggy day outside again today.  It's been raining all morning and it doesn't look as if it wants to stop anytime soon.

It's been raining a lot just recently honeys, but living as I do on the west coast of Scotland, I'm used to the rain.  Sunny days are odder here than rainy ones but still, when summer is far too short already it can be a little depressing when the rain drags on for days (or weeks) with no apparent end in sight...

10 wonderful ways to be happy on a rainy day...

Just because the rain has become an almost constant companion doesn't mean we can't have fun and enjoy any days we are lucky enough to be able to stay home.  Free-to-do-whatever-we-want days are the best!   What to do with a free day that happens to be rainy....

There are lots of ways to be happy when the sun has gone into hiding honeys.  Here are a few to get started....

10 Ways To Be Happy On A Rainy Day...

1.  Listen to favourite music.  Create a rainy day playlist, dance or sing along (or both!) Smile till your face aches 😊

2. Sit at a window and listen to the raindrops landing.  Watch them slide down the glass.  Why not open the window just a little, close your eyes and breathe in all that lovely air, freshened by the rainfall.  Isn't the sound of rainfall calming?

3. Snuggle on the sofa with a loved one (and your furbaby) and enjoy a favourite movie (or two) or watch a favourite boxset.

4.  Pull on an anorak, grab an umbrella and go for a walk. Wear boots and jump in puddles, count how many umbrellas you see (remember that game on road trips where you'd count how many red cars, blue cars?)

5. Go to the park.  Feed the ducks, notice the flowers and since the play area will be empty because of the rain why not turn back time and swing, slide and spin till you're grinning 😊  Who cares if anyone sees you?  They'll just be jealous it's not them having fun 😊

6. Cook something wonderful. Bake a cake, whip up a yummy pasta dish, make a huge pot of warming soup or make cookies πŸ˜‹

7. Enjoy some alone time.  Read a book, have a home spa day, do a home manicure or pedicure, take some time just for you.

8. Invite some friends over.  Play board games, chat, eat pizza, watch some dvds, catch up, have fun.

9. Spend time with your furbaby.  I love spending time with our baby Jade.  On rainy days we play fetch indoors or snuggle on the sofa while I watch TV and she goes for a nap 😊 Jade is such joy on four wee paws 😊

10. Fetch some crafting supplies and enjoy a little creative time by knitting, crocheting, scrap-booking or anything else you enjoy doing and don't usually have enough free time for.

A thought to end on then.  Nature needs the rain honeys.  Think how important the rain is to gardens and wildlife.  Be happy for the nature around you.  Without the rain, plants wouldn't grow and our already at risk, and vital to our environment, bee friends might become extinct!

Few things make me smile more in our garden than seeing a busy bumble bee at work...

  1. I actually love rainy days. Maybe not too many all in a row but I love a rainy day now and then. I love the idea of going for a walk and to the park in the rain. Usually when its rainy, my kids and I have either a movie day or a board game day.

    1. Hi Courtney, I think we must live in the rainiest place in the world :) We're on our 3rd week of rain right now and it can get depressing, if you let it that is :) I actually think that rain can be very calming, and I so agree, a movie day is such fun! I like to create a theme and find a couple of movies to suit :) Thank you so much for visiting, it's lovely to meet you, sending heaps of hugs xx

  2. I love your list of ideas on how to be happy on a rainy day. I have 4 fur-babies so I definitely have that one covered! I find drizzly days really cosy for anorak walks and on blustery days I enjoy hearing the noise of it all going on outside. I think I would like life in Scotland!! Catch you soon xx

    1. Hi Maria, 4 furbabies! You're so lucky! We only have our baby Jade. It's taken her a few years but I think she finally has us trained pretty much how she wants us :) We adopted her from a rescue and she'd been treated terribly by a former owner so we're trying to make up for it by making sure she feels adored :)

I adore the sound of rain. It's lovely to fall asleep to, the sound of the rain on the windows is so calming to me. When it rains you'll find me in the garden trying to catch the rain on our beloved roses in photos. Is there anything so beautiful in the garden as raindrops on a rose?

I've just been reading your recipe for apple & blackberry scones. It's fabulous! I am so trying your recipe :) I've pinned it to my recipe board, I hope that's ok? They look so much nicer than the plain scones more common with our cuppa here. Thank you so much for visiting Maria, sending you heaps of huggles xx

  3. It's refreshing to have a rainy day every once in a while, but it can definitely get depressing when it's days on end! I much prefer if it's a warm rainy day :)

    1. Hi Lylia, oh I so agree!! We've had almost 3 full weeks of rain here and then this morning around 5am there was the loudest thunder, followed by bright flashes of lightning that literally lit up the dark sky. It was awesome to watch, which I did with our furbaby Jade. It must have cleared the air though because today... sunshine!! yaaayyy!!

I loved your post on how to clean your mattress. It's fabulous, so many great tips. I like to hoover ours after sprinkling with baking soda & a few drops of lavender essential oil mixed in a shaker. Leaves the whole room spelling gorgeous and helps sleep too :)

Thank you so much for visiting, it was lovely to see your comment waiting for me and I'm sorry it's taken me a few days to reply. I'm battling the worst chest infection right now and it's not giving up without a fight unfortunately :/ Have a fab day Lylia, sending you heaps of huggles xx
