Smiles In The Kitchen - Egg Cup Cosies For Douglas ๐Ÿ˜Š

Disclaimer:  I haven't been paid to endorse or promote any products, just sharing my latest little kitchen smiles ๐Ÿ˜Š

Hi Honeys
Our kitchen is making me smile so much right now ๐Ÿ˜Š  It really is the silliest thing to be smiling about but I just can't help it! Even glancing at the photos for this blog post have me all ๐Ÿ˜Š

Smiles in the kitchen - egg cosies for our Lurpak Douglas egg cups

I always adored Douglas honeys.  Hang on, I'm ahead of myself aren't I?  After all, what if you don't know who Douglas is?  Douglas lives on a shelf in our kitchen, or rather a few mini ceramic versions of him do.

Douglas was a creation of Aardman Animation, famous for their stop motion work which of course includes the wonderful Wallace & Gromit characters.

Douglas, sometimes known as the "butter man" appeared in a series of TV advertisements promoting Lurpak butter which ran from 1985 until the early 2000s.  If you haven't ever met Douglas you're in for a treat honeys...

Isn't he adorable?  I do hope you watched through to the end because as the ads progressed he became quite the charming little character ๐Ÿ˜Š  I did adore seeing him pop up in ad breaks on TV and would always stop whatever I was doing to watch him ๐Ÿ˜Š

Over the years Lurpak have occasionally produced special promotional, collectable items such as these ceramic egg cups and butter dish...

Our collection of Lurpak egg cups & butter dish all featuring Douglas live on a glass shelf in our kitchen.

The above items I collected with purchases of Lurpak around 2001 or 2002. I can remember what a struggle it was to find one of the sets of egg cups, which were supplied in two sets of two to a box.  I was determined to find them though to complete our mini collection, which also includes an adorable Douglas tea towel, and eventually I did.

There was also I seem to remember a toast rack too but unfortunately I was never able to find one of those.  Our little Douglas ceramics though are much loved and live on a glass shelf in our kitchen.

While browsing the online clearance section of a favourite card & gift catalogue, among other things such as a pug duvet set & beach towels for our neice, I spotted the cutest egg cup cosies.

What are egg cosies I hear you ask... or not if you already know what they are dear ones๐Ÿ˜Š  Egg cosies are a smaller version of a tea cosie which is used to cover a teapot and is insulated in order to keep the tea inside the teapot warm.

The egg cosies arrived with the rest of my order and I couldn't wait to see them sitting on the Lurpak egg cups because I just knew they'd look fabulous and so they do...

The first two Lurpak Douglas egg cups model their egg cosies.

The egg cosies are insulated to keep your boiled egg warm and have a rather jolly Union Jack design which I'm loving.

They were sold in sets of two cosies, so I ordered two sets so that all of our Douglas egg cups could have one each but I have to admit I would have loved to have been able to buy a set with a Saltire (our beautiful Scottish flag bearing the Saint Andrew's Cross) design on them.

Soon all of the Lurpak Douglas egg cups are sporting their lovely egg cosies.

I really am happy with these adorable little egg cosies honeys and I can't help but smile each time I walk into the kitchen ๐Ÿ˜Š

The upper of the two glass shelves, directly above the shelf  where Douglas lives, is again home to our pretty cappuccino cups...

As before pretty cappuccino cups & saucers live on the upper glass shelf.

I have a confession to make honeys.  I don't drink cappuccino but I just fell in love with these cups when I first saw them, a good number of years ago now and still adore them.  Just like our much loved Douglas ceramics, they make me smile ๐Ÿ˜Š

The Union Jack design also ties in with the two tea trays, bearing their friendly "keep calm and carry sandwiches" message, which live by the cooker and a tea cosie we have with mini union jacks and Mini cars printed on it too...

The brightly coloured egg cosies match our tea trays with their Union Jack motif.

If you'd like to see how we arranged the walls of our kitchen after it's mini makeover, and how we used lots of useful storage solutions to make the most of the wall space, you can see lots of photos here.

We've since made a few changes to the area around our cooker, by adding an Ikea Fintorp rail and two of the amazingly useful Fintorp baskets, you can see them here.

Had you ever met Douglas honeys?  Do you remember the Lurpak advertisments?  How do you feel about egg cosies?  What's been making you smile recently?

I hope you're having a wonderful week so far and that you've been enjoying the sunshine.  Our furbaby Jade has been loving laying on the grass in the back garden in the warm sun, bless her.

Till next time dear ones, keep smiling and never let a chance to share a hug pass you by, huggles always xx

    1. Hee hee :) If this post made you smile honey, it did what it was intended to :) I so badly needed a smile, even a wee one this week. It's been a mostly horrible week in spite of all of the lovely sunshine. I'm not sleeping at all, I mean maybe (on a good night) 2-3 hours of broken sleep and almost constant pain in my spine. Not coping well, so I did really need a smile and what appears... wee egg cosies :) Thank you for visiting Leah, it means more to me than you know, huggles always dear wee friend xxx
