Hi Honeys
Well, it happened. After what has to be up there with the rainiest, soggiest, most miserable winter ever, we finally, the day after the spring equinox, the day we finally said goodbye to winter, got snow...
I went downstairs this morning to be met with this sight outside our back door...
Our much loved peonies live in a huge planter at the foot of the couple of steps leading from (or to) our back door.
Looking further out into out back garden, mother nature had been equally generous in sprinkling our lavender, the tops of storage sheds and lawn with the sparkly, wintery stuff....
I'm a Scot honeys, we're used to rain. It rains a lot here. A really lot. So the abundance of rain these past few winter months, while it didn't make me happy, generally speaking rolled off me like water off the proverbial duck.
What did make me happy, relieved even, was the lack of any real snowfall. I'm as far away from being a fan of winter as it's humanly possible to be. Every tissue in my body, every atom of my being longs for warmth, for sunshine, for fluffy (not rainy though, can't do laundry then) clouds bobbing about in a bright blue sky.
You know, the opposite of this...
Many say snow enhances the world. It allows us to see even the bleakest of landscapes as a thing of beauty. I get that. I adore snowy photographs that twinkle and remind me of Christmas card scenes and one of my favourite movies ever...
When it comes to our garden though, my favourite part of our back garden is the middle part. You know, the bit that has four poles embedded to string my laundry lines from.
Snow may well be pretty to look at, and I do (grudgingly) agree that it is but honeys, the end of March is fast approaching and I still can't peg out laundry yet!
Poor Jade went on her morning walk with her Daddy this morning and came back with the top of her adorable head and ears coated in snow. The rest of her, of course, escaped the snow because it was under her winter jacket. She was not a happy furbaby and after a good shake and quick rub down with a towel to dry her off, she headed upstairs to go back to bed where she has warm blankets to snuggle under 😊
With it's usual un-predictable-ness the Scottish weather again changed it's mind this afternoon and with the aid of a wee bit of rain and some gorgeous spring sunshine...
Ta-dah! Just like that we have a lovely spring (although still very chilly) garden. Looking at these photos Hubby has a lot of weeding to do on our patio when the weather gets warm enough to work out there.
The area in the above photo, on the bottom right hand corner of the image, where you can just see the corner of our recycling blue bin, will be changing. It will be turned into a little seating area using the beautiful bench Hubby bought for me around a year or so ago.
Do you remember it honeys? The bench has a gorgeous rose pattern as a back rest...
I'm planning on placing the large planters which are home to our much loved peonies and the lavender we planted last year on either side of the bench. I'll post photos when it's completed.
Speaking of our peonies...
They look so much happier without all of that snow covering them. Look how they're growing too. They'll be in bloom in no time. I've also just noticed, looking at this photo, the soil scattered about the base of the planter... looks like our little squirrel has been burying things in among the peonies again.
Bless him, he's an adorable wee soul and it doesn't seem to do any harm so who can be angry, need to remember to brush it up though or it'll be walked straight into the house.
What about you honeys? Have you had spring-time snow? Wherever you are I hope you're having a fabulous start to the week but stay warm though, winter's definitely not done with us yet.
Till next time dear ones, smile lots and hug even more, sending heaps of huggles always xx
