The Art Of Quilting

Disclaimer: I haven't been paid to promote any products, just sharing a possible new interest x

Hi Honeys
I hope you're staying warm and cozy. It actually does feel like winter here now with a cold, crisp frost on the ground and a bitter chill in the air.  I'm typing this with our furbaby Jade hugging me on the sofa, we're sharing a blanket and she's having a nap, oblivious to her Mum tapping away on the laptops keyboard :)
The Art of Quilting

Here in the UK January is normally the month of "partworks."  Hobby or interest magazines exploring their chosen topic over a (sometimes though not always) specified number of issues or parts. This year is no different I've seen TV ads for three so far and I was curious enough about one in particular to ask Hubby to bring me a copy home with him.

It's called "The Art Of Quilting" and looks like this...
The Art Of Quilting Magazine
Issue one is presented as a very large (maybe A2?) piece of cardboard with the first magazine (already punched so that it can be added to the binder supplied with issue two) inside a plastic bag and attached to the front of the cardboard.

Next to the issue one pages on the front is a plastic "window" set into the cardboard and inside this are the accessories supplied to begin a first square...
The Art of Quilting accessories
As you can see there are four pretty fabrics ranging from plain white, pale blue polka dot, plain red and a very pretty patterned piece with a green background.  There is a bobbin of white thread and a pack of sixteen needles too.

Details of the series and a brief guide to what it will cover in the weekly issues is printed on the reverse of the large cardboard holder...
The Art Of Quilting reverse
Each issue will be supplied with the fabric to complete a single panel which over time will build into the quilt shown above. I've always thought it must be wonderful to have the skill to create something so beautiful. Something that can be treasured, and hopefully passed down through the family.  I would so love to learn how to craft these beautiful squares.

There is a website tied to the magazine which you can see here honeys.  It has three downloads for future projects which you'll find at the bottom of the page I've linked to. The downloads include both parts of a hot water bottle cover as well as the cutest elephant too, which you can see a photo of above.  There is also a blog devoted to this series too.

A while ago I had bought a book in the "dummies guide to..." series...
Quilting For Dummies
It's an excellent book with so many lovely illustrations covering both machine quilting and sewing by hand. I haven't tried any of the projects yet but they're on my (very, very long) to do list :)

Have you ever tried quilting honeys?  Are you a quilter? I am in complete awe of anyone who has mastered this wonderful skill and is able to create beautiful heirlooms to be treasured.  Till next time dear ones, stay warm, smile lots and hug more, huggles always xxx

  1. A friend of mine is an accomplished quilter. Being a guy he raises a few eyebrows but his work is amazing. I'll see if I can find a link to his stained glass window quilt.
