Roses: Much Loved Quotes & Free Printable

Hi honeys,
Yesterday was a "meh" kind of day,  after the glorious sunshine of the previous few days it started to rain and I needed a smile or two.  So, since a smile is always better when it's shared,  I thought I'd post an update on our pretty roses.  It would make me so happy if it made you smile too :)

What better way to accompany the beauty of natures prettiest flower than beautiful words?  So I thought I'd quote a few of my favourite writers.  I hope you like them too honeys.

Oh, my love is like a red, red rose,
that's newly sprung in June;
Oh, my love is like the melodie,
that's sweetly played in tune.
Robert Burns (1759-96)

Roses have thorns, and silver fountains mud;
Clouds and eclipses stain both moon and sun,
And loathsome canker lives in sweetest bud.
William Shakespeare (1564 - 1616)
Sonnet 35

Love is like the wild rose-briar,
Friendship like the holly-tree
The holly is dark when the rose-briar blooms
But which will bloom most constantly?
Emily Bronte (1818-48)
Love and Friendship

And ever she sung from noon to noon,
"two red roses across the moon."
William Morris (1834-96)
"Two Red Roses across the Moon" (1858)

At Christmas I no more desire a rose
Than wish a snow in May's new-fangled mirth;
But like of each thing that in season grows.
William Shakespeare
Love's Labour's Lost act 1 sc1

“There were crimson roses on the bench; they looked like splashes of blood.”
Dorothy L. Sayers (1893 - 1957)
    Strong Poison

I know it's not at all a romantic quote but it's from one of my favourite crime novels.  This book saw  the first meeting of Lord Peter Wimsey & Harriet Vane.  Harriet is on trial for the murder of her lover, all looks lost, she is facing conviction and death by hanging but taking a keen interest in the trial is Lord Peter, amateur sleuth, who falls in love with her at first sight & resolves to prove her innocence.

There are no words for how much I adore the writing of Dorothy L Sayers, with the Lord Peter stories being my absolute favourite.  BBC filmed three of the Lord Peter & Harriet stories, Strong Poison, Have his Carcase & Gaudy Night, and if you ever have the opportunity to see them,  I absolutely recommend them. They are beyond fabulous!

The rose looks fair, but fairer we it deem;
For that sweet odour which doth in it live.
William Shakespeare
Sonnet 54

I think my favourite of these images honeys is the image above.  I like it so much I made a printable version of it for you :) The printable version has had the "watermark" removed.  Feel free to download it for your own personal (non commercial) use.
